Invalides
Besides the Hotel des Invalides, most noted for being Napoleon's tomb and the home of the Military museum, the area around the monument is fairly sparse. The Esplanade is a great place to lie in the sun (weather permitting) or play Frisbee or football. Weekends the green places are alive with people enjoying the air. The Air France terminal is also located on the east side, right across from the Ministry of foreign affairs, and the National Assembly.
The esplanade runs from the Pont Alexandre III started by Czar Nicholas II, who laid the first stone of the bridge in 1896, up the Avenue du Maréchal Galliéni to the 643 foot façade of the old hospital.
The Rodin Museum is located just off this monument, on the Rue de Varenne. To the right the Rue Fabert, the Boulvard de la Tour Maubourg, and the Rue de L’Universite offer a great selection of restaurants.
Behind the Invalides, the Ave de Breteuil leads from the Place Vauban to the 15th arrondissement. The area is largely residential, with some of the more well-preserved examples of late 19th century Haussmann architecture. Penthouse apartments are said to be the most expensive in Paris.
