Pont Charles de Gaulle

In 1986, the Conseil de Paris (Paris Council) decided to build a new bridge to alleviate some of the traffic on the Pont d'Austerlitz (Austerlitz Bridge), the busiest in the capital, and provide an improved link between Bercy and the left bank of Paris and between Gare de Lyon and the Gare d’Austerlitz.

The project was the theme of a European contest won, in November 1988, by Arretche and Karasinski.

Ten years later, the Pont Charles de Gaulle, the 36th bridge of Paris, was inaugurated. The bridge is 207 meters (679.13 feet) long and 35 meters (114.82 feet) wide and has three spans resting on two steel pillars.
Its light, futuristic design is accentuated by a wing-shaped roadway.
