Pont Mirabeau
A superb work of art created in between 1893 and 1896 by Jean Resal, this bridge owes its fame to a poem by Apollinaire, in his “Alcools” anthology.
| The 173 meter (987 foot) iron bridge connects residential areas of the XVth and XVIth arrondissements, and is a contemporary of the Pont Alexandre III (also Resal designed). The Pont Mirabeau is decorated with four statues representing the city of Paris, and the Spirits of Commerce, Navigation and Abundance. |
| Extract from Apollinaire’s famous poem : “Under the Mirabeau bridge flows the Seine - And our loves – Must it would remind me – Joy always came after pain – Comes the night the hour tolls– The days pass, I remain”. |
