17th Arrondissement

The 17th looks immense on the map, and indeed, it is. This is a district with a triple character: rough and tumble in the north and around the tracks coming from the St Lazare station, popular and joyous in its center (with an open market in Rue de Levis), expansive and elegant in the south, where it borders on the 8th and the Park Monceau.

It would be a mistake to consider the 17th merely a conduit to elegant Neuilly. Because here, there's a lot to see and admire thanks to the beautiful freestone houses along the Rue de Courcelles, the Avenue Niel and Wagram, the Boulevard Pereire and the extension of the Rue de Rome. Parisians are right to be proud of these beautiful Haussmanian buildings. The western side of the 17th is home to the Paris conference center at the Porte Maillot, one of the principal arteries out of town and main gates to the Bois de Boulogne and Neuilly City.

With a surface of almost 6 square kilometers holding 160,000 people the 17th is not crowded, but the residents like to describe it as “close and friendly”.
