Pont National
Formerly known as Pont Napoleon III, this bridge was constructed between 1852 and 1853 by Couche and Petit, and renamed Pont National after the fall of the Second Empire in 1870.
| 188.50 meters long (622 feet) over 5 spans, it was originally designed to provide a passage for the "Petite Ceinture" railway and link the fortifications on the left and right banks. The removal of the fortifications and the creation of the Maréchaux interior ring road led to it being widened in the mid 1900’s. |
| In 1936, it was decided to double its width with a sister bridge on the upstream side thanks largely to the "Marquet plan" designed to fight unemployment. Completed in July 1944, the total width of the Pont National is now 34 m joining the Boulevard Poniatowski (right bank) and the Boulevard Masséna (left bank). |
