Pont de la Concorde

Originally called Pont Louis XVI upon its completion in 1791, this 153 meter bridge was re-named the following year as the Pont de la Révolution, reflecting the ever-changing political climate of the time.

Designed by Perronet, the bridge was built with stones salvaged from the Bastille Prison. It carried a multitude of names until 1830 when, under the reign of Louis-Philippe, it was assigned its current name, Pont de la Concorde. In 1930, exactly one century after its final christening, the bridge was widened to its present 45 meter width.

Neoclassical in style, the Pont de la Concorde is adorned with balusters identical to those on the Place de la Concorde. Indeed, this stylistic harmony makes the bridge a natural continuation of Concorde, further contributing to the expansive vista between the Madeleine Church and the Bourbon Palace. The Pont de la Concorde is listed in the Registry of Historical Monuments.
