Pont d'Arcole
The origin of this bridge dates back to 1828 with the construction of a cast-iron foot bridge linking the Île de la Cité to the Place de la Grève, presently the City Hall Square (Hotel de Ville).
| This was replaced by a single 80 meter span in 1856, a real technological feat at the time. The bridge structure had to be reinforced in 1888 after it suddenly subsided 20 cm. |
| The origins of the name are cloudy, but it is generally believed to refer to the victory of Napoleon Bonaparte over the Austrians in 1796 at Arcole, Italy. |
