Pont d'Iéna

The Iena Bridge links the Eiffel tower to the gardens of the Trocadero. It contributes to one of the most popular views in Paris, linking the Palais de Chaillot to the Champ de Mars.

Built between 1808 and 1814, the Iena bridge was named after Napoleon’s victory over the Prussians in 1806. When the Prussians occupied Paris at the fall of the Empire in 1815, the bridge came close to being destroyed and was renamed the Pont des Invalides.

A few years later it retrieved its original name and royal eagles were added to its tympana. Four statues were later added to its extremities, representing Gallic, Roman, Arab and Greek warriors.
