The RER, or Réseau Express Régional

The RER (Réseau Express Régional), is a network of trains that serve several of Paris’ major transportation hubs, as well as the surrounding suburbs. Take the RER to popular destinations like Disneyland Paris or Saint-Germain-en-Laye.

Ticket prices are determined by the distance of your destination, and range from about 2 to 10 euros one-way.

Destinations in the suburbs often offer a number of connecting buses. Like the Metro, the RER is closed from about 1am-5:30am. Closing times for each line are usually marked on overhead signs on station platforms. (Note: In French, time is usually written with an “h” meaning “hour” – so 1h05 means 1:05 am.)

Strikes happen from time to time, so keep informed. To do this, and to get schedules and other information, visit the RATP’s official website at ratp.fr.
