16th Arrondissement
The 16th represents the envied bourgeoisie to most Parisians and French people, in fact to say something is “très 16ème” ("very 16th") is to say it is either elegant or strict, depending on who is saying it. But there is no denying that the 16th is THE residential section of Paris.
| This crescent shaped district covers nearly 8 square kilometers, and 16 if you include the Bois de Boulogne, on the western arm of the city. Yet it houses only 161,000 people in 12 Quartiers: Auteuil, Boulogne, Dauphine, Grand Armee, Iena, Kleber, Passy, Porte Maillot,Porte de Saint Cloud, Trocadero, Radio France and Victor Hugo.
|
| A walk through the 16th especially around the Place du Trocadero is a delight, offering superb views of the Seine and the Left Bank and majestic buildings leading down broad leafy avenues all the way to the Bois de Boulogne. It is also a way to discover small, out of the way houses and alleyways harboring unexpected bistros and restaurants.
|
| Definitely what the movie stars think of when they come to Paris, but an attainable dream for tourists with a sense of beauty... and thick soles.
