In 2010 Air France will take the train
Early in February 2008 Alstrom unveiled its AGV (Automotrice a Grand Vitesse), the successor to the venerable TGV (Train a Grand Vitesse). No sooner was the AGV announced than operators were placing orders: NTV in Italy placed an order for 25 of them and in France the first client could very well be Air France-KLM.
| If it seems surprising that an airline would want to run a railroad it is only on the surface: In 2010 railways will be deregulated allowing Air France to replace some of it’s less popular, unprofitable, short haul flights with fast modern train service. Additionally they’ll be offering a high speed link service between international flights. |
| In all likelihood, we’ll being seeing Air France KLM selling train tickets head to head with SNCF. Cool huh? |
