Give yourself a vintage bus ride
Hey, it’s gonna be your birthday soon right? Or maybe you’re getting married or you just want to have a great time blasting around Paris? The RATP will let you rent one of its obsolete fleet for that personal antique touch to your romp around town.
The Locabus service has been in operation since 1912 and has always been a great favorite among those in the know. Companies often use the service to add a fun touch to their corporate outings; it’s better than bungee jumping – and safer too. Chanel recently used Locabus to launch their “Croisiere” (Cruise) collection for 2005-2006.
You can add to the atmosphere by dressing up in 1930’s style clothing and hanging off the back platform of a TN4 or TN6, or even an Agora (they hold up to 80 people). Kind of gives public transportation a Charles Trenet or Louis Mariana touch. Hey, even if Serge Gainsbourg was in knickers back then, you can still sing the “Poinçonneur des Lilas” (The Lilas Conductor). “Tickets please!”
The majectic architecture of the Arc de Triomphe made it naturally the monument of memory and symbol : privileged witness of the return of Napoléon’s ashes in December 1840, chapel of rest for Victor Hugo in May 1885, parade of victorious armies... Since January 1921 lies under the Arch the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, whose flame is revived every day in honor of the French soldiers who died for France during World War I. Every year, on July 14th, the Arc de Triomphe is also the starting point of the military parade on the Champs-Elysées.
