The way I like my town: Contest winners
If you remember, back in December we talked to you about this contest organized by the RATP, "Ma Ville Comme Je l'Aime" ("The Way I Like My Town"): The public was invited to contribute essays describing their love for Paris. Well, the jury has reached their verdicts and here they are:
| Grand Prize: “Paris, to thank you, I caress you with my feet.” Raphaël Capperon, Boulogne.
|
| Other laureates :
« A cobbled street sleeps. It is morning, no one is out. They’re not smart.” Francis, Reuil Malmaison.
“My town, my nest, my island, my life!” Mathieu Hébrard, Villejuif.
« I love my town at 6AM when the Métro speaks Wolof and Bambara. At 10 AM when the museums speak Russian and Japanese, at noon when the Pizzas speak Spanish and Hindi and in the afternoon when the street speaks Tamazight and Tamoul. I love my town at midnight when I’m finding my way and when I don’t understand her.” Jean-Paul R. Paris.
“I love my town at my feet, but it’s not easy to love a whole town, so I take her by districts – form the first to the last. The one I prefer is the one I was born in because I learned it’s rhythm and saw it change. I am Parisian – from mother to daughter, we don’t change: it’s a question of allure, heels and walking.” Aude Id Nacer, Paris.
“I wouldn’t mind dancing a Tyrolean, or even wait for the Arlesian, but I don’t see me counting the tick-tocks of Big Ben. You can sing the Port of Amsterdam, even make me row across the channel, but I don’t see me leaving for the streets of Paname (note: 'Paname' is a friendly Paris nickname). Paris in a bottle, bottles up my life. I get drunk on the Seine, drown in her bed. Whether you stay or you go, you never leave Paris.” With apologies to Roxane K. Paris. |
